3 Ways To Practice Gratitude With Your Son

At Champion Tribes, a phrase we like to use is, “how you view things will drive how you do things”. It’s so true that the way perceive things greatly impacts how we act.

Despite already knowing this truth, I recently allowed myself to slip into a very negative mindset. I found myself constantly complaining, blaming other people, and anxious about the future. Fortunately for me, a mentor was able to pick up on my unhealthy mindset.

He asked me a few question and we began to talk through everything going on in my life. After getting everything off my chest, I asked him if there was an antidote to my negativity. His response was simple:

Focus on what you are grateful for

The act of practicing gratitude is something I wish I had started a long time ago. Teaching your son to practice gratitude now will equip him for the ups and downs he will face in the future.

Here are 3 ways to practice gratitude with your son:

1) Write it down

Every day for at least a month, write down something you are grateful for. This will begin to train your brain to look for opportunities to be grateful throughout the day.

2) Talk about it

Tell someone something specific about themselves that you are grateful for. As guys, this can feel uncomfortable at first. But trust me, it will mean more to other person than you know.

3) Live it

Find a way to leverage your unique strengths and abilities to serve other people. There is no better feeling than using your gifts with purpose to build other people up.
